Before detection zones can be defined for devices, the camera must be calibrated in order to teach the camera how to translate from flat 2D video to 3D space.
- Calibration must be set up along parallel lane lines, which is how most intersections and highways are designed. However, if the lanes are not parallel to one another the calibration must be set up differently.
- Move the cursor to one of the corner or lane markers then click and drag to the desired location.
- Repeat for each corner/marker until the zone covers the detection area and calibration lines are arranged so that they line up with the lane lines.
- To add additional lanes to the zone, in the Commands section click Add Lane.
- Adjust the markers to line up with the lane lines.
In the image below one additional lane was added in order to create three detection areas: right turn lane, thru lanes, and a left turn lane.
5. Edit the distance measurements as required by clicking on a value and entering a new one.
6. Align the vertical bars with a vertical structure in the image, such as a post, a pole or the edge of a building. If possible, the bars should be spread apart.
7. Click Apply Changes.
8. Return to the Device screen.
9. Select Zone Setup.
