The optimum camera placement is on a signal mast arm or luminaire arm across the junction from the stop line (see Figure 2-1 and Figure 2-2).
IMPORTANT: The IntelliSight Cameras do not operate in a side-fire configuration, they are meant to be mounted facing on-coming or receding traffic.
Figure 2-1: IntelliSight Camera Placement
The camera should be located horizontally on the mast arm or luminaire arm in a level position and aimed towards approaching traffic. The actual alignment will depend on the number of lanes and whether there is a dedicated left turn lane.
The camera can be mounted on the mast arm on the same side of the junction if there is enough setback. Straight down views are currently not supported. This view may also be limited on what it can detect and what data will be valid.
Figure 2-2: IntelliSight Camera Placement
Aim the camera according to the following figures.
Two or Three Lanes
Four Lanes with Left Turn
Figure 2-3: Camera alignment between Lanes 1 and 2
Four Thru Lanes
Five Lanes with Left Turn
Figure 2-4: Camera alignment between Lanes 2 and 3
NOTE: For six lanes, or if the alignment along the desired lane line is not possible, shift to the nearest lane line towards the center of the field-of-view.
